On 17th December 2012 ultra runner Richard Bowles arrived in southern New Zealand, and became the first person to run the 3054km Te Araroa trail end-to-end from one end of New Zealand to another. Prior to that Richard also became the first person to run Australia's Bicentennial National Trail end-to-end, 5330km from Healesville in Victoria to Cooktown in Far North Queensland.
